Mattie Lovan Obituary

Mattie Lovan, 89, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 in Shelbyville, Kentucky surrounded by her family.  Mattie was born in Auburn, Kentucky on June 14, 1930.  She was the daughter of the late Wrennie Weaver Woodward and Amanda Marie Clay Woodward.  She was the sixth of seven children and was preceded in death by four brothers, Chester Woodward, Joe Woodward, Tom Woodward, and Alva Clay Woodward (infant).  She is survived by two sisters, Ernestine Hughes of Auburn, Kentucky and Ruth Orndorff of Adairville, Kentucky.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willard G. Lovan, Morgantown, Kentucky.  She is survived by two sons, Dwight Keith Lovan (Joey), Lexington, Kentucky and Bryan Kelly Lovan (Phoebe), Frankfort, Kentucky, and two granddaughters Kellie Elizabeth Lovan and Caroline Marie Rose.

Mattie was married on October 20, 1950 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Willard Lovan.  She was a devoted wife and mother.  Her role as mother to her two boys gave her great pleasure.  She was blessed with two granddaughters.

She attended Morgantown Baptist Church. Throughout Mattie’s illness, she always remained faithful to the Lord.  While at the Masonic Home in Shelbyville, she attended bible class, prayer meetings, and rarely missed Sunday church service.

One of her greatest pleasures in life was her many friends.  She kept every greeting card, letter, or expression of thought from her friends and would often sit quietly reading and re-reading them.  Even though she lived in Shelbyville, throughout the last days of her life, her heart was always back home with her many friends in Morgantown.

Funeral services will take place at Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, Ky. on Sunday, October 6, 2019. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until time of service at 3:00 pm.  Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro, Kentucky.

Special thanks are extended to the staff of Masonic Homes of Shelbyville for the love and care extended to Mattie during the past two years.  Staff Chaplain, Jesse Baxter, was a constant source of comfort and inspiration to her.
