Shirley (Phelps) Smith

Shirley Phelps Smith, age 72, of Morgantown, answered the call of her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of May 12, 2019.  Mrs. Smith was born on March 21, 1947 in Morgantown, Kentucky to the late Roy Ellis and Ona Velma Tarrance Phelps.  She was preceded in death by an infant child, two infant brothers, and her siblings George Phelps, Jolene Cardwell Hunt, Viva Jean Hunt, and Adaline Johnson, as well as her in-laws Oval B. and Jerlene Smith.  Shirley devoted her life to the Lord, her husband, and her children.  She was a faithful member of Free Union Independent General Baptist Church.  

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 48 years, David Allen Smith of Morgantown, as well as her children:  Amanda (Kevin) Hayduk of Morgantown; David D. Smith of Bowling Green and Daniel Smith of Morgantown. She adored being Nanny to her two grandchildren Kiersten Foit and Nathan Hayduk both of Morgantown.  She is also survived by her in-laws: Betty Phelps of Morgantown; Barnett (Beverly) Smith and Roy (Karen) Smith of Leitchfield; Charlie (Mary) Smith of Millwood; and her sister in laws Carolyn (Bobby) Entrekin of Alabama; Reaunetta Hatcher of Bowling Green; and Lois Higgs of Leitchfield, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.  

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 15 at 1pm at Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Roy Smith, Bro. Charlie Smith and Bro. David Hall officiating.  Burial will follow in the Woodcock Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, May 14 from 12pm-8pm and Wednesday, 9am until time of service at Smith Funeral Home.
