Betty Headley Obituary

Betty Sue Hardcastle Headley, 75, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away on May 10, 2021, at Lakeland Regional Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born on July 1, 1945 in Logan County, Kentucky, to Charles Maynard and Jesse Myrtle Hardcastle.  As a child, Betty moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where she graduated from Wood High School and attended Indiana University before meeting Chuck Headley, who was stationed at Fort Harrison.  The two were married on December 27, 1963.  Soon thereafter they moved to Washington, D.C. when Chuck was transferred by the Army, where Betty worked for the U.S. Department of Justice.  Betty and Chuck had three sons, Chuck, Jr., Scott, and Jim.  In 1978 the family moved to Butler County, Kentucky, where the family operated a country store.  In 1983 the family moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where Betty was employed at Florida Federal, Meta Incorporated, and then the Poynter Institute for Media Studies.  Once retired, Betty and Chuck moved to Lakeland, Florida.

Wherever she went, Betty lit up the room with her positive energy and sweet demeanor.  She had a gentle and beautiful voice, wonderful smile and infectious attitude.  She had a great sense of humor and treated everyone as family.  Betty saw the best in everyone, viewing the world through wonderful rose-colored glasses.  She was loving , forgiving, and inspirational to all and was always supportive.

Betty was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.   She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her brothers Wendell, Robert and Morris.  She is survived by her husband of 57 ½ years Chuck, her three sons Chuck (Donna), Scott (Amy) and Jim (Lana), her brothers Charles (Ann) and Roger (Janet), her sister Mary, her sister-in-law Diane, her grandchildren Rob (Meg), Megan, Sam (Ronnie), Aiden, and Jimmy, and her great-grandchildren Levi, Miles, Kory, Kyra and Lyla, many nieces and nephews, as well as countless others who called her “mom”.
