James "Jimmy" Thompson, Sr. Obituary

James “Jimmy” Leon Thompson, Sr., 75, of Morgantown, Ky., met his Lord and Savior face to face on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021 at his home surrounded by family.  He was born April 23, 1946, in Dunmor, KY to the late J.C. Thompson and Barbara Nell Foster.  Jimmy was a retired truck driver and dispatcher for Golden R Coal Company, Morgantown Freight and Rone Trucking.  He was an avid NASCAR fan until the death of Dale Earnhardt, loved baseball, the American flag and the liberties it stands for.  He enjoyed leisure travels and flea markets, especially Hillsville, VA.  His greatest love and enjoyment were his family.  “Papow” was a fierce protector of his family and will be missed beyond words.  In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his step-mother Lois Thompson; great-granddaughter Eleanor Nell Riley and brother-in-law Don Gray.

He is survived by his loving, devoted, Proverbs wife, Brenda Neighbors Thompson; daughter Teresa Woodcock and husband Greg; son James “Jim” Leon Thompson II and wife Sarah all of Morgantown; three grandchildren Cory Thompson of Largo, FL, Courtney Riley and husband McLean and Zeke Woodcock and fiancé Ivy Brown all of Bowling Green; two great grandchildren Lincoln and Monroe Riley; two sisters Linda Diane Gray of Springfield, OR and Donna Johnson of Greenville, KY; one brother Reedy Thompson and wife Karen of Owensboro, KY; as well as cousins and many good friends including his Hospice nurse, Fred.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  Psalm 23:6.
