Joe Davis Forgy, born on September 13, 1942, in Morgantown, Kentucky, passed away peacefully in his home March 6, 2026. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Pearl Forgy, and his mother, Mary Virginia Hills Forgy.
Jody was committed to his hometown of Morgantown and had a long and varied work history that spanned several decades:
1962-1981: Joe began his career as a manager at Forgy Drug Store (est.1942 – 1981) in Morgantown, where he was known for his exceptional service and dedication.
Jody was actively involved in the Republican Party, politics, governance, and development of Morgantown where he served on:
1986-1996 & 2010- Present: The Planning and Zoning Commission.
1996-1998: The Morgantown City Council.
2001-2009: The Board of Adjustment.
2018-2022: The Kentucky Board of Pharmacy.
Additionally, Jody was the Butler County Campaign Coordinator for Rand Paul for US Senator in 2010 and actively participated as a chairman and vice-chairman of the Butler County Republican Party.
He was a member of the Morgantown First Baptist Church since 1954, where he served as a Sunday School Director 1975 –1982.
Jody graduated from Butler County High School in May 1960 and attended Western Kentucky University in 1960 and 1961. He was a devoted family man, married to Alice Forgy of Morgantown. Together, they raised two children:
Charlie Forgy and his wife Suree, of Ashland, Virginia.
Lana Hatcher and her husband Shane, of Morgantown.
Jody was a proud grandfather to:
Loren Ward and her husband Randy, of Morgantown.
Robyn Cox and her fiancé Sean Sharpe, of Morgantown
Dillon Cox and his wife Kaylee, of Morgantown.
Andrew Hatcher, of Bowling Green.
He also cherished his great-grandchildren, Silas and Brody Ward, of Morgantown, and leaves behind several cousins.
Throughout his life, Joe had a passion for Butler County boys’ and girls’ basketball, where he touched many lives with his enthusiasm, kindness, and compassion.
Jody will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, community, and faith. His warmth, service, and humor will leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew him.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 12 at 1:00pm at Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Coy Merry and Bro. Greg Wallace officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 11 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and on Thursday from 8:00am until 1:00pm at Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be held in the Hill Haven Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Morgantown Mission, The Butler County Animal Shelter.
