Marilyn Gayle Hartis Milam, age 78, of Morgantown, KY passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at her residence, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Huntsville, KY on Aug. 20, 1947. She was a homemaker and a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church. Gayle loved the simple, beautiful things in life. She loved tending to her flowers and spending time in her garden, where she could watch things grow and bloom, also cheering for the UK Wildcats. She loved all animals, especially watching beautiful birds and being with her sweet fur baby Ollie. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Connie Milam; parents David Hartis and Wanda June Harper Humphrey; grandparents Eck and Mazie Kitchens Harper and Perry and Leulla Cartwright Hartis; sister Sandra Caudill; brother Jr. Hartis; fur babies Beau, Ollie, Kyra, Chan and Simon.
Gayle is survived by her children Paula Butts (Tim), Penni Lee (Keith), Rebecca Connelly (David) and David Carroll (Krista); grandchildren Mallory Combs (Brian), Myranda West (Heath), Jorden Phelps (Brittany), Dakota Phelps (Kate), Jacob, Allison and Jessica Carroll; great-grandchildren Kylee Price, Mason West, Brody West, Brylee Tarrence, Gracelyn Gayle “GG” West, August Phelps and Lennon Phelps; sisters Debi Phelps (Kevin) and Angie Lee (Gary); special caregivers Sonya King (Ronald) and Tammy Carathers (Thomas); several nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 1:00pm at Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Metheny and Bro. Alton Crowe officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 17 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and Wednesday from 9:00am until 1:00pm at Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Sandy Creek Cemetery. For those unable to attend the funeral the service will be broadcast live on the Smith Funeral Home Facebook page.
