Rickey Flener Obituary

Rickey Lee Flener, age 74, of Morgantown, Kentucky, passed away at his residence on June 21, 2025.

Rickey was born on July 29, 1950 in Morgantown, Kentucky to Earl and Dorothy Coots Flener. He grew up in Morgantown surrounded by a large family of aunts, uncles, and cousins, went on to trade school, and received his certification in auto and diesel mechanics.  He worked 15 years for Tichenor’s Chevy in Hartford, Kentucky, and also laid flooring, as an independent contractor, along with his Uncle John Coots, for Cooper’s Carpet for 30+ years.

He was known for being an extremely hard worker, and would do anything for anyone, no questions asked.  He loved his wife, boys, his girls/daughter-in-laws, and grandsons.  He took pride in all of the work he accomplished over the years.  He was loved and supported by his close relationship with special uncles, aunts, and cousins and his close church family that gave him purpose.

He married Glenda Ruth Napier Flener on April 7, 1975, and together they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. Rickey was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend.  He was also a devoted Christian.  He was a member of Aberdeen Baptist Church for 70 years and the last five years as treasurer of Welcome Fellowship Church.  He loved deer hunting, fishing, and tinkering on things around the house.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda Ruth Napier Flener, his two sons, Kurt Patrick Flener (Katie) of Morgantown, Kentucky and Garet Ryan Flener (Lee Ann) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and his five grandsons, Layton, Weston, Warren, Rhett, and Brooks and preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Dorothy Coots Flener, and his brothers Eddie Royce Flener and Timothy Earl Flener.

Rickey’s life will be honored at Welcome Fellowship Church, 5435 Caneyville Rd., Morgantown, KY  42261 on Thursday, June 26th, 2025.  Visitation will be held 10:00am for the public with the funeral service starting at 3:00pm with Bro. Lawson Embry officiating.  Burial will be immediately following the service at Aberdeen Church Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gideons Bibles and Welcome Fellowship Church in honor of his life of service for the new outdoor recreational area.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
