Vivian Ruth Bates went to be with the Lord September 21, 2017. She was born August 10, 1934 in Louisville, Kentucky to James J. and Violet (McFarland) Prather. Vivian resided in Morgantown, Kentucky for many years, then spent her last few years in Okeechobee, Florida. She enjoyed Bingo and listening to music.
Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Charlie Bates; son, Raymond Bates; granddaughter, Donna; parents; two brothers; and four sisters.
She is survived by eight children, Grant W. Bates (Denise), of Louisville, KY, Christine Domina (Larry), of Morgantown, KY, Eugene Bates (Amanda), of Ocala, Cassandra McPeak (Alan), of Okeechobee, Yolanda McPeak (Roger), of Okeechobee, Annette Bates, of Louisville, KY, Ronald Bates (Trina), of Morgantown, KY, and Anthony Bates (Angela), of Okeechobee; fifty plus grandchildren; fifty plus great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and multiple family members and friends that called her Mom, Memaw, or Aunt Viv.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, Sept 30 at 1pm. Burial will follow at Yeaman Cemetery in Grayson Co. Visitation will be on Friday, Sept 29 from 4-8pm and Saturday from 8am until time of service at Smith Funeral Home. Morgantown, Ky.
